Candied Sweet Potato and Yam

Soft sweet potatoes and yams sautéed in delicious mixture of brown sugar & spices. Perfect for the family or as a traditional side for the holidays

Ingredients

  • 1 medium yam
  • 1 medium sweet potato
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • Pinch ground cinnamon
  • Pinch ground allspice
  • Pinch ground nutmeg
  • Pinch black pepper

Cooking Steps

  1. In a pot of boiling water cook yam and sweet potato with their skin on until tender. Cool, peel, and dice, then set aside. (You should have 1 cup of each.)
  2. In a sauté pan heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the butter and let melt. Add yam, sweet potato, brown sugar, and spices. Reduce heat; let simmer until sugar is melted and yam and sweet potato are glazed. Spoon yam and sweet potato mixture into serving dish.
