Candied Sweet Potato and Yam
Soft sweet potatoes and yams sautéed in delicious mixture of brown sugar & spices. Perfect for the family or as a traditional side for the holidays
Ingredients
- 1 medium yam
- 1 medium sweet potato
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- Pinch ground cinnamon
- Pinch ground allspice
- Pinch ground nutmeg
- Pinch black pepper
Cooking Steps
- In a pot of boiling water cook yam and sweet potato with their skin on until tender. Cool, peel, and dice, then set aside. (You should have 1 cup of each.)
- In a sauté pan heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the butter and let melt. Add yam, sweet potato, brown sugar, and spices. Reduce heat; let simmer until sugar is melted and yam and sweet potato are glazed. Spoon yam and sweet potato mixture into serving dish.
