Chocolate Pecan Pie

A rich chocolatey spin on this classic southern dessert

Ingredients

  • 2/3 Cup dark syrup
  • 1/4 Cup unbleached flour
  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 Cup butter unsalted
  • 1 6oz chocolate chips
  • 1 Dash salt
  • 1 Cup whole pecans
  • 4 Each eggs
  • 1 9-inch deep dish pie shell

Cooking Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, combine cane syrup, sugar, and a dash of salt over medium heat, stirring until sugar is melted and mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat. Stir in butter until melted. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine eggs, flour, and vanilla, mixing with a wire whisk or fork until smooth.
  4. Add warm syrup mixture to the bowl in a slow, steady stream, constantly beating the contents of the bowl as you pour. 
  5. Spread the chocolate chips in the bottom of the unbaked deep-dish pie shell, and then cover with pecans.
  6. Pour the filling mixture evenly over the top. In a preheated oven, bake 70 minutes or until filling is set. Center of pie will puff slightly when pie is in oven but will settle when pie comes out. 
  7. Cool completely on wire rack.
