Chocolate Pecan Pie
A rich chocolatey spin on this classic southern dessert
Ingredients
- 2/3 Cup dark syrup
- 1/4 Cup unbleached flour
- 1/2 Cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 Cup butter unsalted
- 1 6oz chocolate chips
- 1 Dash salt
- 1 Cup whole pecans
- 4 Each eggs
- 1 9-inch deep dish pie shell
Cooking Steps
- In a small saucepan, combine cane syrup, sugar, and a dash of salt over medium heat, stirring until sugar is melted and mixture comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat. Stir in butter until melted. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine eggs, flour, and vanilla, mixing with a wire whisk or fork until smooth.
- Add warm syrup mixture to the bowl in a slow, steady stream, constantly beating the contents of the bowl as you pour.
- Spread the chocolate chips in the bottom of the unbaked deep-dish pie shell, and then cover with pecans.
- Pour the filling mixture evenly over the top. In a preheated oven, bake 70 minutes or until filling is set. Center of pie will puff slightly when pie is in oven but will settle when pie comes out.
- Cool completely on wire rack.
